Meeting New People

I don’t know how many of you are meeting new people in person right now (due to Ms. Rona), but there’s still a chance its happening. There’s also still social media where you can meet people, sooo this post will still prove to be helpful.

So, yeah, Imma give you the tea!

Be Nice

When you start off, be nice. If you’re like me and are a little playfully rude once you get comfortable with people, don’t start off being playfully rude. Ease into it. You know… Be funny, a littleee sarcastic, and give them compliments. When I’m trying to make friends, I’ll always be like “girl, you’re sooo prettyyyy!” And yes they are sooo pretty.

Don’t Tell Them Everything Right Away

Telling people everything about you is showing them you trust them which is a good thing, but you could scare them away. Especially if you tell them a lot of stuff at once. You can slowly tell them stuff, but don’t tell your whole life story in one conversation. If you don’t know any conversation starters, I’ll do a post about it… But if you need some right now, look some up!

Feel Out Their Vibe

Not everyone wants to be your friend for the sole purpose of being your friend. Feel out the vibe (that means just see what type of person they are) before you trust them with your entire heart and soul. Let them feel out your vibe, too, because y’all might decide y’all don’t really like each other.

Don’t Judge a Person Based off Rumors

Whatever you heard about them? Remove it from your brain. Erase it. Pretend it doesn’t exist. You need to get to know them for them, not for whatever people have told you. The rumors could be straight up lies and you could think they’re super cool and chill. Don’t fall into the mix and believe everything you’re told, because that’s how you make enemies real fast.

Be Real With Them

Don’t lie to them. Tell them the truth about things and just be honest. They’ll appreciate it and respect you a lot more if you do that. In return, they should be real with you. You should also be able to confront them about things (not in a rude way), and they should be able to confront you. A friendship won’t work without that.

BHM Icon of the Week: Shirley Chisholm. “Congress is more diverse now than it’s ever been. However, when Chisholm was attempting to shatter the glass ceiling, the same couldn’t be said. During the racially contentious period in the late ’60s, she became the first Black woman elected to Congress. She represented New York’s 12th District from 1969 to 1983, and in 1972, she became the first woman to run for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Her campaign slogan: “Unbought and Unbossed” rings even louder today. Senator Kamala Harris recently paid tribute to Chisholm in her presidential campaign announcement by using a similar logo to Chisholm’s.”

BHM Story of the Week: Lena Baker was arrested “for killing a white man who had kidnapped and assaulted her. She claimed that she had shot him in self defense. Baker was convicted by a jury of white men and became the only woman ever executed by electrocution in Georgia. In 2005, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles granted Baker a pardon saying that the state had committed a grievous error.” There’s a movie called Hope & Redemption: The Lena Baker Story. I haven’t watched it yet, but I plan on doing so. I can’t believe they actually electrocuted her until she died. Like what????

Best Thing to Happen to me This Week: I got my first job working at a place that does vinyl and embroidery!

Weekly Affirmation: Today I am a leader.
