Babe, being confident will change your life for the better. You can go from being average to being THAT girl/boy just by believing in yourself and knowing who you are.Taylor, author of Tay’s Gen Z Diary
If you’re here, you’re probably here from my Study Hacks post. If you’re not, you’re here to become more confident. Either way, you’re here. You’ve found me, so congratulations. And, yeah, Imma give you the tea.
Hype Yourself Up
Tell yourself that you’re beautiful. Spend time alone and just compliment yourself. Be like, “Babe, yes. You are that. You did that.” Don’t depend on compliments from other people, because 9 times out of 10, you won’t get it. You need to understand the importance of being able to hype yourself up. Once you can do that and be okay with others not constantly giving you compliments, you’ll be doing way better than before when you were fishing for compliments or going out of your way to make something noticeable so people will say something.
This may seem a little cliche or whatever. Smiling more does help. When you’re not smiling, it gives off the impression that you’re not as confident as you may be. You can smile without being happy. You don’t necessarily have to be happy to be confident (although that does help and boost your confidence), but smiling can cause a short period of relaxation and happiness.
Wear Whatever You Want
Now, this is a little harder for those that aren’t above 18 years old. Typically, we’re still living with a parent/guardian and if they don’t like what you wear, that’s that. However, you can still dress the way you want and please them. You just have to find a curveball. Wearing what you want will boost your confidence, because it’s doing what you want. You’re not listening to someone else or trying to please others. Do it for you. I don’t care if all your friends are wearing it. If it doesn’t feel like you and make you feel better about yourself, don’t wear it. Wear things you’re comfortable in. Wear things that make you feel like THAT boy/girl. Don’t worry if people don’t exactly “approve” of your clothing choices. Just say, “Are the clothes for me or for you?” “You in my business, don’t do that.” “You’re worried about what I’m wearing? Very much fan behavior.” I’m sure that’ll put a stop on them for a little.
Yes. Yes. YES! Do this! Honestly, taking a day for yourself (whether once a week or once a month) is definitely what you need. You need to spend time with yourself. Having a certain, planned pamper day will also keep you going and striving, because you have something to look forward to. You can just take a shower, wash and dry your sheets, and just sit around chilling and watching TV. The main thing is to be by yourself.
This is so cliche, I know. Buttt… Being yourself is a big part of being confident. If you’re not being yourself, then you’re not getting to know yourself. If you’re not getting to know yourself, then you’re not becoming comfortable with yourself. So, please, be yourself. Maybe you have to get new friends if your current friends don’t like your real self. Maybe your friends are fine with it. At the end of the day, you need to be comfortable with yourself so that when people don’t want to be your friend, you’ll be okay with that.
Yes, another cliche. Loving yourself goes into being yourself and being comfortable with yourself. Once you’re comfortable in your own skin, you’ll love yourself more and appreciate yourself more. You’ll love yourself no matter what flaws or what insecurities you have. Loving yourself adds to your confidence. Nobody can make you feel totally degraded if you love yourself, because the love you have for yourself will block it out.
Accept and Embrace Your Flaws
This is vital to being confident. If you’re stuck on insecurities, you won’t make any progress. I know that getting over insecurities is hard as I’m trying to get over some insecurities myself. But, if you’re not at least trying, why? Why wouldn’t you want to accept yourself the way you are, so you can become a better person? It’ll help you in the long run. If you can accept and be at least somewhat proud of your flaws now, it’ll make it easier to not have a desire to be perfect as you get older.
Let People Walk Over You
Do not, do not, DO NOT! I know it’s relatively easy to let people walk over you. Literally, all you have to do is agree with them when you didn’t want to. Some people will take advantage of you, manipulate you, and make you feel bad whenever you don’t agree with them. Separate yourself from these people immediately. After you’ve established an effective way of saying no to people and standing up for yourself, you’re good. You’re on the right path of becoming more confident.
Beat Yourself Up
Don’t beat yourself up, especially over little stuff. It’s okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to not know what to do in certain situations. That’s a part of being a human, so don’t do the most over a small little thing that won’t matter in a few months or years. Take time and reevaluate the situation, so you realize that it’s not as bad as it seems.
Talk Bad About Yourself
Why would you do this? “I’m not smart enough”, “I’m not good at that”. Babe, no. If you know that you’re not good at something, say “I could be better at this”. Talking bad about yourself will make others think they have some type of leeway to talk bad about you, too. If you don’t like when people talk bad about you, don’t talk bad about yourself. When you talk bad about yourself, you’re filling your head up with all that negativity and it’s not going to build your confidence at all.
Compare Yourself w/ Others
This is only going to lead to your feelings getting hurt. If you see someone that isn’t like you, and you compare yourself to them, you’re going to try to be more like them. If you’re trying to be like people you see off social media, STOP. You’re only seeing what they want you to see. You’re seeing edited pictures and videos. You’re seeing something from the surface and not seeing how deep it goes. Your life may be bad, but you can still make the best of it without comparing yourself.
This goes along with all the other don’t’s. If you think negatively, you’re filling your head with bad thoughts. You’re not progressing and it’s only going to get worse. Take some time to make sure you’re thinking positively.
